I'm just going to say it. It feels good to be back on the west coast (sorry east coasters). The weather, the smiles, and well... the weather (kidding it was actually raining but still). I hate to rub it in but it's definitely doing something for me because the moment I stepped off the plane at SLO, I've been quite the happy camper.
For those of who don't know, I am a born and bred Bostonian. Don't let my lack of an accent fool you- I'm a true Boston gal and even have my die hard Beantown sports love to prove it. But due to the extreme cold and a longing for something different, I ventured west for college and spent 4 amazing years at Santa Clara University in Northern California. I met some of my best friends and like most college students, I had lots and lots of fun. Whether it was in Santa Clara, field hockey games in SLO/Santa Barbara, or trips to visit my sister at USC in Los Angeles, Cali has been a whirlwind of an experience and I forgot how much I missed it here. Not to mention, I've lost count of how many people have smiled at me today rather than staring and/or looking at their phones while pretending not to see me (ahem east coast, that's something we could work on).
Anyways, this year Kappa has the exciting opportunity to colonize two chapters in California- one of which is at Cal Poly! After a fun and laughter filled weekend, Becca (a fellow LC) and I ventured from HQ in Columbus at a very early 6 AM departure to lovely California. I really wish I had more to say about our day but really, I think the highlight for both of us was when we were able to gate check our small-ish roller bags to our final destination. If you're a frequent flyer, you know how important and nice and easy and just plain old smart this is. If not, I suggest you get with the program and take advantage of the free checked bag- it's totally worth it and did I mention it's free?
Although the day was a bit of a slow one (nice way to jump- or step- back in to the LC routine if you ask me) we do get to spend the next week with the amazing Sarah who will be the chapter consultant here at Cal Poly. The entire RDC and LC team was very excited to see exactly what her self described "kitchen-less" apartment would be like so Becca and I knew we would be in for a treat. It's actually very cute minus the fact that her kitchen, aka microwave, is in the laundry room. I'm sure anything she zaps will have a hint of Tide in the background but hey, make do with what you got, right?
It's getting late here and as much as I love being awake for 21 hours, it may be time to hit the hay. I'll be sure to keep you all posted on how colonization at Cal Poly is going this week. We are so incredibly excited to be welcoming a new chapter and can't wait to meet the next charter members of Eta Rho!
Alrightey my readers (aka Anna Banana), time to sign off. Nightey night :)
Very excited for you, Jessie! I'm hoping to attend Cal Poly's installation. Keep us posted on your adventures!
